Morning Becomes Eclectic (MBE) is a adult album alternative (triple-A) radio program first aired in 1977 and broadcast live every weekday from KCRW in Santa Monica, California. The show’s name is a play on the Eugene O’Neill trilogy of plays, Mourning Becomes Electra.

The Morning Becomes Eclectic(MBE) radio program has spawned 5+ albums; with every album filled with various up-and-coming musical artist from every viable genre. The show is repeated twice on KCRW’s music webcast(here), and live performances are also sometimes available as audio and video podcasts. Typically, the show features two or three live performances each week during the last hour of the day’s broadcast.

Every city should have a radio show as fresh and intelligent as Morning Becomes Eclectic from KCRW in Santa Monica. Unencumbered by narrow genre classifications, the show has built up an audience for left-of-center singer-songwriters, art-pop bands, world beatniks, jazz fusionists, and hip-hoppers. All are featured on this compilation of live, on-air performances. While the previous four-volume KCRW series, Rare on the Air, may have featured more legends (including Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and Joni Mitchell), and hence more consistent material, the sense of discovery and adventure of this latest sampling is seductive. The strongest cuts tend to be the most stripped down: Afro-pop chanteuse Angelique Kidjo‘s a cappella “Blewu,” Beth Orton‘s tingling voice and guitar performance on “Sugar Boy,” Mercury Rev‘s Velvet Underground-meets-the-Band “Opus 40,” and P.J. Harvey‘s eerie dirge “Is This Desire?” –Roy Kasten

Clueless Woman Calls Tech Show When Her Stolen Wi-Fi Disappears

Jennifer, a tech radio show caller in Long Beach California, is trying to (re)gain access to a internet wireless signal(Wi-Fi) that she has been using for a year and a half, but never paid a dime for. Maybe you’ve possibly done something similar by using the neighbor’s Wi-Fi before yours was installed, or possibly just wanted to show a friend that hilarious you-tube video from your laptop.

Have you ever stolen Wi-Fi ? Sit back and be happy you were not low-tech enough to brag about it on internet radio. Click here to watch Leo Laporte takes this listener through the legal, moral, and security implications of using someone elses Wi-Fi signal. This is hilarious, its Episode 641. The caller (Jennifer) is so embarrassed, she drops off the line and Leo is talking with himself for at least half of the call.

Just a short note on the newest product from Google called Google-Buzz(GB). Is GB yet another social networking tool? What differentiates this tool from the plethora of social networking tools out there? Let’s start with foreign policy. Within the framework of U.S. geopolitical primacy shared by both parties, Barack Obama has departed significantly from the foreign policy of George W. Bush in both substance and style. With respect to substance, he is fulfilling his campaign promise to draw down U.S. involvement in Iraq cautiously while increasing resources for the fight against bin Laden’s jihadists and their Taliban supporters, who, unlike Saddam Hussein, planned or suborned the 9/11 attacks.

McCain, by contrast, not only supported Bush’s unnecessary and unjustified Iraq war, but has consistently been more hawkish than Bush, as difficult as that may be to imagine. Remember, during the 2000 Republican presidential primary McCain, not Bush, was the initial favorite of the neoconservatives, who proudly called themselves “McCainiacs.” During the second Bush term of 2005-09, Republican realists like Defense Secretary Robert Gates (whom Obama wisely has retained) replaced neocons and neocon-friendly hawks allied with Dick Cheney such as Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz and Douglas Feith. If McCain had been elected, it seems likely that this would have been reversed. Neocons like Elliott Abrams, instead of dwelling in exile at the Council on Foreign Relations, might well be back making foreign policy in the executive branch.

On Fox News, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) called the Iranian election a “sham” and said that he hopes the U.S. “will act.” President Obama said that he would refrain from weighing in. “[We] want to avoid the United States being the issue inside of Iran, which sometimes the United States can be a handy political football,” he said. Today, McCain responded, calling on Obama to turn up his rhetoric. “He should speak out that this is a corrupt, flawed sham of an election and that the Iranian people have been deprived of their rights,” he said. But the next morning on CBS, McCain’s Senate GOP colleague and Foreign Relations Committee ranking member Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) sided with Obama… Read the entire article here.

The latest on SuperBowl champions – The New Orlean Saints.

Super Bowl Winners: Saints beat Colts. I’m not a huge sports fan, but I do watch the the NFL playoffs and the SuperBowl. This years Superbowl was actually a great show, a nail-biter.

The Saints, the underdog of the Super Bowl, were determined after Peyton Manning threw an interception with less than 4 minutes left in the game. This interception by Tracy Porter lead to a Saints Touch Down. With 3:12 left in the game, there’s no way that Indiana will catch up from 17 to 31.

Pretty much everyone expected the Colts to win. After all, they had a nearly undefeated season and their only loss came after second string was put in late in a game.

The largest Super Bowl win was by 10 up until now, but the Saints beat the Colts by 14 points. What an unexpected ending to the Super Bowl.

Now that the Saints have won their first Super Bowl appearance, will Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush finally get engaged? While Kim said that their bet wasn’t really true, many will be holding their breath to see if Kim gets her ring after Reggie gets his Super Bowl Ring.

So the Super Bowl 2010 Final Score is 31-17 Saints leading the Colts. While the Colts didn’t win, there’s always next year.
